I will respect your opinion, but these new FO individuals did not leave successful organizations like the Blue Jays, Cubs, and Astros to fail in Pittsburgh. Ben Cherington and his operations group have a plan to bring winning baseball to Pittsburgh.

Not sure how I feel about this. For far too long the Pirate brain trust has acted like they think they are the smartest ones in the room. They have offered things like analytics to compensate for their refusal to spend to obtain or keep talent. And we've seen how that worked out. We've seen the one size fits all pitching philosophy that prevented Cole, Glasnow and Morton from reaching their potential until they went elsewhere. We've seen the search for players from India, Lithiania, South Africa and Korea to avoid bidding wars for better players.

BC won't have any more money to spend than his predecessors. So, like them, his only chance at meaningful improvement will be to succeed where the others failed at player evaluation and development. And I hope that whatever he has in mind is successful. But when I hear "player-centric" development and "cutting edge of science," data driven" and "biomechanics and psychology" it sounds like BC is the new smartest guy in the room. Sounds a lot like NH only with more words.

But I'll wait and see. Maybe this time it will be different. If nothing else it suggests the end of the one size fits all philosophy. But until I see results, all it looks like is a fancier way of saying they'll use science to try to make less talented players more competitive with the other teams' more talented players.

I, too, respect your opinion, but I believe that the only plan is to sell a fictitious future that never gets here and not spend any money right now to improve the team.

People leave employers for different reasons. They may have come to The Burgh to win baseball games. They didn't come to win the World Series.

There have been several negative messages etc regarding the lack of player movement since Ben C came on board last November. I do think he has a plan, and he is not going to make a trade or acquire a player just to make a splash. He has brought some front office people on board who have strong player development reputations in baseball. Sure the Bucs did not win at least 20 games in 2020, but in my opinion better days are coming under this current FO group.

Agree, scouting did not seem to be an issue with the previous FO, they were signing (and trading for) talented players. You also saw guys they drafted but did not sign go on to have success elsewhere. The Player development was terrible.

In addition, they are going to be a forward focused organization, focusing on the mind and utilizing key tools to help players reach their maximum potential.

Hopefully this means less Gregory Polancos and more Andrew McCutchens.
