Sad but true, Doc. And we aren’t even asking them to become big spenders. Just to be closer to an average payroll than to the very bottom of the heap.

Act with some sense of urgency to strike while the iron is hot. They don't have the bats. SO GET THEM! Stop being 29th in payroll and get some hitters! Can't just wait for the poor hitters they currently have to morph into something they are incapable of being. Can't wait for prospects who are a few years away and might never pan out anyway. Can't find hitters in dumpsters. They need Cherington to start acting like a real GM. They need a real manager. But that seems to be asking too much.Doc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 12:39 pmIf history is any indication, the "something" that will happen with this group of pitchers is that, in less than six years, all of them will have been traded.bucs607179 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 05, 2024 10:11 am Sure hope we can do something with this starting pitching we have. Next season could be promising with a few bats.
Right. We all know the Pirates can't spend like the top half of clubs, and no one is asking them to, but no one can convince me that payroll can't be $50 million more. That would bring in two legit power bats. (Imagine two guys like Austin Riley and Matt Olsen playing here.) No guarantees come with that but the chances of being competitive increase dramatically.
