I would think they could get Gio signed pretty easily.

Boy, really good wise to let Nova go and at the same time NOT go out and get a REAL LIVE STARTING PITCHER.

It's impossible for me to believe the Pirates are perfectly willing to go into a new season with no semblance of a 5th starter.

And today Keller is torched!

We better hope Rookie Davis is this year's Mikolas.

I wonder if the White Sox would trade Ivan Nova for DSL player Yordi Rosario and international slot money?

Just sign Gio Gonzalez push Brault Kingham and Lyles into depth roles (or off the team, in braults case. And call it a rotation

It makes ZERO sense why a franchise would basically concede the 5th spot in the rotation and make NO EFFORT to upgrade from the garbage currently occupying that spot ... when there are UPGRADES out there that are AVAILABLE & AFFORDABLE.

The only explanation is ... Pirates.

I simply can't believe they are willing to move forward Lyons/Brault/Kingham.

Really smart move to give Nova away ...

You only give Nova away if you are 7 or 8 deep in the rotation and have VIABLE OPTIONS behind him.

The Pirates are lucky to MAYBE be 4 deep. And that's it.

Kinda reminiscent of when they cut payroll by trading an ineffective Morton and when we expected a moderately priced upgrade we got 38 year old retread Ryan Vogelsong.

Is Archer really a #2? The last 3 years he has a 4.12 ERA and 99 ERA+. That’s average.

Hopefully, Taillon and Williams will pitch well enough that Archer will be no higher than #3. He's starting the home opener, which is the 4th game of the season. So he's not opening the year at #2. If he can get back to how he pitched prior to 2016 he will be a great asset. But until he shows he can do that, he's average as you said.

In Williams last 13 starts he had a 1.29 ERA. Obviously unsustainable. His peripheral stats for the entire season suggest he wasn’t as productive. Maybe he’s a #2. I doubt it.

Somebody has to fill that slot. I agree with you that Archer hasn't pitched that way in several years. Williams was one of the NL's best last year. We'll just have to wait and see if that's sustainable. But I'd rather have a very effective pitcher on the field whose peripherals are suspect than an ineffective pitcher. I think we're all curious as to how well Williams can do this year after that surprisingly good season last year.
