I'm wondering how much the lack of August 31st trade deadline hurt things (not just us but "trade action" in general)

I guess there was sort of an understanding of the worth of renting payers for 1 month when the deadline was 8/31. But now they get these players for twice as long and maybe teams aren't sure how much more compensation is due. Probably in another year or 2 there will be more of a pattern of compensation for acquiring players on 7/31 who will leave as FAs after the season.
