That said, the starting 8 would look a lot better if Moran, Hayes and Stallings were playing their normal positions.  That would at least relegate the haphazard collection of Tom, Gamel, et al to the #8 slot in the order.

While all teams suffer injuries, the Pirates have less depth than most to withstand the loss of 3 decent players at the same time.

On the pitching end, Kuhl or Brault could be better than Cahill (emphasize could), and Crick, if healthy, could make the pen deeper by 1 arm.

I am not making any excuses for the play on the field, as I recognize that the current roster has several position players who were designated for assignment (Tom, Gamel and Craig), and has several others who no one tried to sign (Diffo and Perez).  When you only carry 12 position players, that is a lot of chaffe.

Pitchers are in the same category.  Cahill and Anderson were basically unsigned veterans as spring training was ready to get underway, Oviedo is Rule 5, Underwood, Shreve, and Holmes were all designated, and many of the carry-overs from last year were no great shakes.

What does it add up to?  Basically, what most expected, a team that will be really challenged to win more than 1 of every 3 games.  Nonetheless, I still will be following the Bucs.
Just shows you how bad NH, and CH were. They left this organization totally depleted. The guy almost survived another year. What a disaster he left this organization in.

Perez - .089.   Gamel - .097   Craig - .136.

Mario Mendoza or one of the former posters favorite, Abe Nunez, are almost sluggers in looking at the above.
.089- darn hard to justify his being in the lineup

All of them are listed as negative 0.4 WAR right now, so I'm wondering if that that's a default number until a certain threshold of games/innings/AB's occurs?
