Roberto Clemente batted .328 in the 1960s. The American League batting champs of the 1960s combined to bat .324 in their championship seasons. Clemente also collected more hits than the champs, 1877-1815.

We all know that Roberto Clemente has hit the only walk off, inside the park grand slam in MLB history, on July 25th 1956 against the Cubs, giving the Pirates a 9-8 victory. (If you didn't know that, you know it now)

Add this to The Great One's legacy: Clemente's FIRST major league HR was an inside the park home run, on April 18 1955 at the Polo Grounds against the Giants.

The scone winningest pitcher in major league history, Walter Johnson, had more career hits (547) than wins (417). Not sure how unusual that is but I’ll bet not many pitchers has more than 417 hits.

Interesting stat. Made me curious and I thought Warren Spahn might have more but he "only" had 363 hits, amazingly the same as his number of wins.

Red Ruffing had 521 hits and 273 wins.

I was trying to figure out which pitchers had most hits too, Cy Young had 623. He is probably leader but I don't know how to search to verify it.

Bob Gibson  251 wins 274 hits

Steve Carleton 329 wins 346 hits.

Grover Cleveland 373 wins 378 hits

Last season 147 players in MLB struck out at least 100 times. Gwynn's season high in Ks was 40. In a 20-year career, he struck out only 434 times in 10,232 PAs. In 11 of his 20 seasons he had fewer than 20 Ks.
