Agree. It's essentially what I was saying. It's not a large industry. Reputations are established, both favorable and less so.

BOB is a known commodity.

I will admit I still had hope when Nutting fired the FO , and brought in Travis Williams and Ben C. Ben also has brought in some talented people under him to build the Organization. I would think BC with his former background is not very excited about how the Reynolds situation has been handled. What happens if he is approached by another team,do you think he will stay in Pittsburgh to finish what he started ? He will leave along with some of his other people and the Pirates are back to square one again. One can say another person will become GM, but in my estimation BC is a very smart man. Also on another note, what to you think players like Davis, Gonzales and Cruz think when they see the Pirates taking Reynolds to arbitration. I am sure they think get me out of this organization ASAP. This entire situation could have a snowball effect.

Totally agree

BC has done an incredible job bringing in talent with trades, signings and especially his drafting saavy. Why would he stay when his hard work would be negated by Nutting.

It’s curious to me why Cherington came here. He had nothing to prove other than showing he could build a club from scratch with an owner who offered little in the way of resources. I don’t expect him to be here for long, especially if his acquisitions win a World Series sometime in these next three to five years. Why would he want to be continuously hamstrung by an owner like Nutting?

Even wealthy people have obligations, and the Pirates could have been his biggest carrot.

Let's be honest. I highly doubt that winning a WS was among the expectations placed on him. This job probably had fewer demands placed on him than any others that were available.

As with any executive who doesn't replace a person who died, retired, or relocated, he inherited a dumpster fire. If things weren't such a mess, the job wouldn't have been available. Any improvement at all with a club like the Pirates, and he's viewed as at least reasonably successful.

He had a built-in excuse if things don't work out. He works for BOB. He doesn't need to give any additional details. The world knows BOB.

The prospect of bringing the club back to life is a challenge that some people want to take on to prove that they have what it takes. All 30 GMs think that they're better than the other 29,

They say that BOB doesn't meddle as much as some of the other owners. That could've have been to Cherington's liking.

And, what better place to live and work than The Burgh?

Only reason that guy notices is because he was born in Mt. Lebo.

Meanwhile, on MLBNR, it was Pirates Day.

I wanted to heave.  Almost wanted to pull over and rip my radio out of the dash.

The exact opposite.

Reynolds?  HOF.

Ke'Brian Hayes?  HOF.

Cole Tucker?  HOF.

Keller?  HOF.

Quintana?  HOF.

Shelton?  Him and his beard?  HOF.

Cherington?  HOF.

Pirates fans should be excited.  Pirates fans need to be patient.

They wouldn't say "dead last," or even "last place."  It's always "fifth place," like we're too stupid to count.

It was a rally call for CanKickers Anonymous.

Ferrall summed up the Pirates quite nicely when he said that baseball has a new deal and billions are being spent, yet the Pirates won't spend $4 million (actually, an extra $700,000) for their best player. I'm the first to admit that spending more money offers no guarantees but $700K in today's game is like you or me spending an extra $1 when we fill-up our grocery cart.

Interesting article in the Trib about Forbes valuing Pirates at 1.32 billion (23rd of 30 MLB franchises). This quote caught my eye:

Per Forbes, the Pirates have an estimated annual operating income of $64 million, which ranks on par with the Red Sox ($69 million) and Cubs ($68 million), but their $258 million in revenue is tied for 25th with the Chicago White Sox.

Only the Oakland A’s ($208 million), Toronto Blue Jays ($238 million), Miami Marlins ($240 million), Baltimore Orioles ($251 million) and Tampa Bay Rays ($252 million) generated less revenue.

Maybe Nutting could increase the revenue by giving the fans a better product. And I don't mean features on the scoreboard.

What is the difference between. "Operating Income" and "Revenue"?

Is OI the Revenue from ticket sales, parking, and concessions?

Is Revenue the income from all sources?

Back on Point- Reynolds- do we know when the hearing takes place?
