Why bother sending him out there in the first place if he's only going to go to two guys?

Is it good to do?
he only was going to pitch to three guys, which he did. Manaea came in when it was Suwinski's turn to bat, which was probably the plan all along, knowing he'd bat 4th or 5th

I know what happened.  I'm wondering what the reasoning behind it was.  Seemed like he threw only a few pitches.  Why bother?  Is there a benefit that hasn't crossed my mind?

I think the theory of it is that the opener can just go as hard as he can. The actual starting guy comes in, I'm guessing theoretically taking it to the closer if there's a lead

Interesting. Different. Not sure what to make of it.

Seems weird, though. I can only imagine what Goose Gossage would have to say. Little printable.

Delay singles, the ball bounces over the left fielder's glove. Castro to third, Delay to second

Rabelo holds Castro, would have been close. Wild pitch, Castro scores on it anyhow, close play at the plate, pitcher dropped the ball anyhow. Delay to third

2-1 Bucs

So I did some reading. The theory behind it is some of the best arms in the bullpen never get in the game. Use one of them to open against the opponents better hitters

chopper to first, Delay delays on his break home, called out, Pirates challenge.

Call confirmed. Pirates again can't score a guy from third with one out. If Delay hadn't hesitated, he scores easy, the first baseman didn't field it well.

Also, I just learned, when the infield is in, then there's no blocking the plate. I don't get that.

Either way, another wasted opportunity. Those bad Pirates traits that never seem to end, regardless the change of faces.

Manaea out, that's strange. He was only at 53 pitches. Cutch to face a righty now

Those traits just keep coming. Palacios picked off first by the catcher. Bad base running? Pirates did two Piratey's on back to back pitches.

Stuff like this just seems to give other teams the momentum right back. The error in left, we only partially capitalized on, because of stupidity on the base paths.

When exactly do these guys learn to play baseball? How much "youthful mistakes" do we have to endure, year in and year out?

Right on cue, in regards to my taking the momentum back, a lead off double

Strikes out Yaz. Really needed that.

And that's it for Oviedo, Moreta on. Oviedo only goes 4.1 tonight.

So it's a bullpen game all around for both teams. What's really interesting is this is the fifth pitcher in the game combined for the two teams, it's only one out bottom of the fifth. You'd think it was because of a slugfest, but it's only 2-1

Moreta walks the first batter he faces. JD Davis has walked all three times tonight.

Moreta can't find the plate, this could get ugly real quick
