Why would Shelton pinch hit Cruz in the 8th with no one on base, down by three runs? Wouldn’t it have been better to see if the Pirates could get a couple of guys on in the ninth and then bring him in to hit? It’s bad enough we have a minor league roster, do we also have to have a minor league manager?

I don't believe Shelton could manage effectively at any level. His thought process defies description. He's the Mortimer Snerd of managing.

Oh, well, nice comeback try by the Pirates. I’ll take that rather than they just rolling over. I know it’s still a loss but, for a little bit of time, there was excitement and hope. My standards are fairly low at this point so I’m trying to find joy where I can.

What happens…. Cutch swings at the first pitch he sees and hounds into an inning ending DP in the 9th…..Cruz swings at the first pitch with runners on 1st and 2nd no outs and hits into a DP killing the 10th inning rally
