Nice pickup by GMBC in Joey "can't pitch" Wentz. 1 hit, 1 run, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 1 K, in 1/3 of an inning with 26 pitches. I hope we are not stuck with him.

I hope GMBC washed well after climbing back out of the dumpster with his new find.

Nice pickup by GMBC in Dennis "over-the-hill" Santana 1 inning 4 hits, 6 runs, 6 earned runs, 2 walks, 0 K, and 1 HBP ... oh yeah, I am glad we got stuck with him.

I don't love the scrapheap grabs, but we seem to do better with pitchers than the Quad A hitters we tend to sign. Santana stunk his first time out and now has people wondering if he is late-inning material - all because we tweaked his pitch sequencing. Boruki was the same last year as he had played for Toronto for 5 years to the tune of a close to 4.50 ERA. He was under 3 after we tweaked whatever we diid for 2023.

"With a combined 30.2% whiff rate and a 30.7% chase rate, Wentz rates above average to among the best in the game at forcing bad swings. His three secondary pitches have improved this year, with a 35% whiff rate or higher on his curveball, cutter, and changeup. The problem for Wentz is that his fastball has been hit hard. It averages 93.8 MPH and gets up to 96, but has a .438 wOBA against."

Maybe he was trying to throw his FB a little differently last night and couldn't control it, who knows. But I think there is something there and he has a pedigree as a 40th overall draft pick for us to spend a month finding out.
