If the Pirates number 1 priority as they like to say over and over again is winning baseball games then you keep Meadows up here for now and play him everyday whether Marte is ready to come back or not.

Getting back to this disaster of a week against the Padres and Reds of going 2-5 in these 7 games. The only way you make up for this is to go out and win a majority of these next 10 games against both the Cardinals and Cubs. I’m talking either going 7-3 or worst case 6-4. Going 7-3 puts you at 34-25 and going 6-4 puts you at 33-26. So still a good opportunity right in front of the Pirates to make up for what they just did this last week or so.

Super 2 matters. It matters to the majority of the teams. I hope Huntington figures out that date soon. I still have no idea how to calculate that actual date.

Yes, his appearances have been in low level situations, but over his last 5 appearances, Glasnow has given up 1 ER in 9.1 IP, with 1 BB and 12 K's. Still a lot of hits (7), and a lot of pitches (147), but there are signs.

Reds announcers were raving about Glasnow. Said it was the best they've seen him. And he did look good. Painting corners. Hit 100 mph. Good curve. Good control. Could just be SSS, but then again, so could Meadows.

As an aside, why was there now Pirates TV coverage of this game? They had the same situation with the White Sox last week. I can understand not airing the game when the Pens have a game at the same time, which is rare. And even then, most teams have an alternate feed so you can get both games, like MASN and MASN+ when Red Sox/Celtics/Bruins games conflict with each other.

its not calculated until way way later

the data that needs to tabulated is literally the amount of service time all the other rookies from Meadow's "class" accrue in their first two seasons.

so there is no way to PRE calculate it, but just guess based on past seasons.

https://www.fangraphs.com/library/business/super-two/

players with between two and three years of service may be eligible for super two status if they rank in the top 22% of service time among players with between two and three years of service.

Yes, but you cannot send him down when he's red hot like this.   He will cool off, then they can get him the days in AAA he needs to avoid super two.     Doesn't matter if it's in a week or a month, only the total number of days counts against it.

Like Bobster said, the decision isn't here yet anyway, so it doesn't matter but this kid is squaring up everything right now, ride it out.

Yeah, if he doesn't go back down, it's about a guarantee he'll be super two based on what other teams do.   Oh well.

Glasnow still has a long way to go, but he sure looks like he’s making significant progress. It was either John or Bob on the radio talking about the Pirates handling Glasnow perfectly - letting him slowly take control of the situation on the mound. Said he looks like a different player on the mound. Hitting 100 today is pretty significant I would think, his confidence building.

With our starting pitching lacking, Glasnow development is huge news.

Re Meadows: I’ve been able to watch him in spring training and he looks like a future star. But the Pirates seem to specialize in Sophmore slumps, and Freshmen and Junior slumps. And maybe Senior slumps just for good measure.

A tremendous start. Like Polanco and Bell and Frazier and....

I hate to be cynical, and he’s impressive so far, but we’ve seen this before. We’ll know more in August and September.

In the meantime he’s gotta play even though I’m a long way from giving up on Polanco.

Super 2 is an excuse Pittsburgh would use against. If they are supposedly in it to win games (that is what they were spewing out months ago), then Super 2 shouldn't matter. Meadows gives the Pirates a better chance to win than does Polanco. Not rocket science.
