Thanks for posting. There are some very positive comments in the comment thread.

Well crap. He’s done such a great job at player development in Toronto. He’s obviously overqualified for the job and it’s just a matter of time before he gets a GM job again. Hopefully he’s learned from his poor contracts in Boston.

If he gets the job, I’ll be interested to see what he brings to the table. Huntington was also regarded as a heavy sabremetrics guy But Cherington does have a background with player development.

I think the bad contracts in his tenure with Boston were more driven by John Henry’s desire to win and catching the yankees 27 championships

I find it interesting that one thing he wants to do is rebuild an organization from the ground up. So, given that he is the front-runner, if he accepts it looks like we may be in for a true full rebuild.

The team definitely needs to be rebuilt. what looks to be a lack of pitching in the minors is disheartening. There needs to be a couple players ready to fight for major league spots every year.

Either the team is not getting enough talent into the system or the system isn't developing them well or a combination of the two has to be fixed.

For those who do not subscribe to P2 you are missing some great articles. You're welcome Tim Williams.

His article for today gets into his ideas for the GM position. He favors hiring Cherington as President of Baseball Ops, Matt Arnold as GM and keeping Kevin Graves as an assistant GM perhaps with a special title. Tim loves Graves and says that he is definitely in the loop with modern day baseball and player procurement.

I agree with Tim. This is kinda like the Cubs did with their upper management team.
