Agreed. I would only add that even before he was part of that OF he was billed as a 3rd of a dream OF upon his arrival from AAA. Another huge failure of the organization to accurately assess talent.

I forgot about that.

This is what really gets to me.

We get rid of guys. We keep Doumit.

We get rid of McCutchen and Marte. We keep Polanco.

I won't even go back way farther.

I understand the reasons. But, now, there are only three ways to get rid of hin:

1. Cut and pay (forget that.)

2. Trade and eat.

3. Package with two other guys.

The Rays are at it again - this time the Padres think they've gotten just what they want - https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/306 ... snell-rays

The Rays are always near the bottom of MLB payroll but in 2019 gave Snell a 5-year extension worth about 50 million. He was under contract thru 2023 but the big money didn't kick in until 2021. Now they won't have to pay it. Sounds like their owner is getting advice vice from Nutting.

Like the Marlins with Stanton, the Pirates with McCutchen and Marte....backloaded deals with no intent to see through to the end.

Watch.  You heard it here first.  Archer is signed by the Rays.  Wins the Cy.  BOB never thought of that.

It sure does sound like a Nutting strategy. The one big difference, though, is that the Rays management staff and coaches have done a really good job of identifying good amateur talent and developing it into good major league talent. I wish those Front Office guys were here in Pittsburgh.

Polanco now says he never fractured his wrist.

“First of all, the injury, they said it the wrong way,” Polanco said on a video conference call from Bradenton, Fla. “I never broke my wrist. I had a little flare on my bone — not the hamate bone.”
