Watching other games, it's starting to amaze me how many former players actually like this idea. I'm not always sure if they're being a shill or playing devil's advocate to their broadcast partner.

I've never understood how it was supposed to mitigate the covid. Also, the runner on second doesn't count against the pitcher as an earned run. But the runner gets credit for a run scored, and if he's driven in the batter gets credit for an RBI, which go on historical records. I wonder how many more RBI Aaron and Ruth would have had with this concoction.

And another question I have...is this set in stone the rest of the season? With practically everyone opening up come June or July?

I think it was on MLB network they were saying how few games actually make it to the 12th inning in normal baseball when they go extras, so using this as a "speeding up the game" thing doesn't pass muster either.
Good win- team can surprise you now and then

I've also thought about the stats issue. You can make the last out of the prior inning and receive credit for scoring a run the next inning. Or you could win the RBI title or become the all time RBI king by a couple of ghost runners you drove in.

The rule makes no sense now that the minors are playing. Last year there was no farm system to dip into if you needed pitching help after wearing out the BP in extra inning games. So this rule increased the chances of scoring, thus reducing the chances of extended extra innings. But that situation no longer exists. They could at least wait until the 13th inning after one more time thru the lineup in innings 10-12. Or in the 16th after 2 more times thru the lineup. But right now it's just a bogus way to artificially end the game ASAP.

I always liked extra inning games in person as a kid. Still like them today. This rule and 3 batter rule are major changes in rules and need to be eliminated. Neither solves any sort of issue with the game. Maybe MLB is trying to be like the NFL and make rule changes every season.

I think three batter rule, extra innings games, DH in both leagues and expanded playoffs will be all on the negotiating table this offseason. I wouldn’t even mind if they added a ten run or greater rule after 7 innings. Who wants to continue watching a game that is 15-4 after seven innings?

You never know what you might see. A triple play. Someone going for the cycle. All kinds of things keep my interest in a baseball game beyond the score itself.

It's like how I wanted to see a replay of Gamel going after the flyball that resulted in the leg double. Was he going non-chalant? Was it a gamble because both were going hard?

Blowouts are where we see the back end of the bullpen...will this be the outing the guy turns it around?

I got a lot more to enjoy than just guys crossing the plate.

I'm in favor of all of Manfred's rule changes only if they go full little league and make the coach take the team out for ice cream after every win.

And fans who don't want to continue watching a 15-4 game can leave whenever they want. But that doesn't mean the game should be ended for everyone else.
