One of the cool, or weird, things that happened after Maz hit his 9th inning homer was seeing Casey Stengel and the other Yankees walking past the home plate mob scene on their way to the Pirates dugout to get back to their locker room. Image what that must have been like with both teams walking down those steps and through the tunnel together.

Also, the visitors’ clubhouse in Forbes Field did not have an office for the manager to address the press after a game. Stengel had to go to Danny Murtaugh’s office to talk to the press, which he complained about because it limited his ability to talk to his players after a game.

My neighbor was a sport editor who covered the game, and he couldn't fight his way into the clubhouse. He recognized Maz's wife sitting near the field, so he interviewed her.

Didn’t know that. It would be interesting to have seen Forbes Field through the eyes of an adult instead of as an awe-struck kid.

Yes, it was vs the Reds, Wise hit 15 career HRs.



On 7/3/66, Braves pitcher Tony Cloninger hit 2 grand slams. For the game he was 3 for 5 with 9 RBIs. For the 1966 season he batted .234 with 5 HRs and 23 RBIs. That was just 4 fewer RBIs than MLB batting champion Matty Alou.
