Kratz has been good enough to kick around the minors and get time in major leagues almost (if not every) year since leaving the Pirates.  Considering the Pirates catching situation I have to wonder why the Pirates didn't keep him longer, it is not like they kept finding better back up catchers.

He'll be a manager in a few years.

Just saw Mark Melancon is going to have surgery on his arm for compartment syndrome. This was a condition he evidently suffered from during his Pirate years. That guy did his job about as well as any player during his Pittsburgh tenure.

RIP Gene Michael, 79. Best known as an executive with the Yankees organization, he came up through the Pirate farm system as a shortstop in the 1960s, and reached the big league club in 1966. He was immediately packaged with Bob Bailey and traded to the Dodgers for shortstop Maury Wills, who became the Pirates' third baseman.

After hitting .239 with a .294 OBP and 26 HRs in AAA, Pedro Alvarez was a September call-up with the Orioles. He's only been used to PH 3 times. Struck out twice and grounded out. The AAA outfield experiment didn't work out and was discontinued in early June. He spent the rest of the season between 1B and DH.
