My understanding is that starting next year the bottom three teams will all have the same shot at the #1 pool. The A's, Pirates, and Nats have a pretty good grip on those three slots right now.

Thanks.  I knew there was a change to the structure, but I thought the worst team had more chances, the second worst had a few less, and so on.

Babe is correct. The 3 teams with the worst record all have the same percentage of getting the number 1 pick. I think 16.5%.

Although the Pirates have a good shot of finishing 1, 2 or 3; they could also fall to #7

I stand corrected. Losing more games is just coming naturally. :'(

just saw Delay now has been charged with 9 errors.  That isn't good.

Tried to look fielding stats up on mlb.com and couldn't find any (other with individual player records).  Just hitting and pitching stats were the choices.
Here you go.

With 2 more errors, Cruz now has the 2nd most errors in the NL at SS with 15. Brandon Crawford and Trea Turner both have 16. But Turner has played 1,307 innings at SS and Crawford has played 916. Cruz has only played 623 innings at SS.

Cruz is 12th in innings at short in the NL, 11th in total chances, 8th in putouts, 13th in assists, 3rd in errors, 10th in DPs. Higher fielding percentage than Castillo, Newman or Castro. Ditto range factor. BB-Ref has him with 0.5 dWAR, 1 fielding run above replacement.

Edit: I don't know if anyone goes for range factor anymore, but BB-Ref has Cruz leading the NL among guys who have played 100 innings at the position.

He's got good range at SS and a great arm. But he's very inconsistent. His errors all seem to come on routine plays. SS is too important a position to always have to fear that errors will result from routine plays.

thanks, since mlb.com doesn't carry this, I guess they don't think it is important.

I agree about fearing errors from routine plays. However, I think it is worth a shot for Cruz to play more there and see if he reduces his errors next season.

thanks, since mlb.com doesn't carry this, I guess they don't think it is important. Average numbers of errors for catching position is 10. Delay has 9 in about 1/3 of games.
