Cards have a 7.5 lead over the Brewers. They are playing each other tonight. Cards could clinch by Sunday. The last three against the Bucs would be meaningless. Would definitely rest their starting pitchers at least

Stiller fans may have something to say about that Bobster.

The Cards and Yankees both clinched last night. The Cards are locked into the third seed. There is absolutely nothing for them to play for the rest of the way, other than to set their pitching lineup.

I don't think Tomlin is a good coach. But Shelton is in a class by himself. IMHO, he's even worse than McClendon, Russell and Tracy. There are managers/coaches who do too little or try to do too much. But it just seems like every idea Shelton has is the exact opposite of what is logical. And he constantly does that. I think he tries to be different and unconventional for the sake of being different and unconventional. I get the impression he thinks he's smarter than everyone else and has to do the opposite of conventional baseball thinking to prove it. And he ends up with a series of very bad ideas in every game that very predictably turn out bad. He's "protected" by the assumption that the Pirates will lose most of their games anyway so it's often said he shouldn't be judged by their record. But that doesn't excuse him from making one bad decision after another, which makes his bad team even worse.

But did the Pirates have to win 7 games in a row against the Reds!

The Reds now only have a 1 game lead on the Pirates. If the Pirates overtake the Reds they will drop to 4th in next years draft.

Since next years draft is a lottery, the 3 worst teams record wise have the highest odds to get the Number 1. Odds drop after that

No need to worry, JR. The Bucs have six games against the Cardinals coming up. Pujols will lead the way and may pass Ruth at the same time.
