With all the middle infield depth in the Pirates System, I could see them putting him on the trading block this offseason if he struggles the remainder of this season. That's all I have to say about that.
It's easy to be frustrated with Cruz's bat so far this season as I think we've all expected more, but it's far too early to give up on him. So many great players struggled in their first year or so and then found their way. His talent is too great offensively, and he brings a power bat the whole organization lacks. Now, moving him off of shortstop is certainly up for discussion but that's not a reason to seek trade opportunities. He seems like an odd personality. Last night, he clobbered that home run and there was no indication of joy or success. He was totally emotionless, and like he wanted no attention. He doesn't have to flip his bat or pound his chest but, at the same time, it's okay to at least smile. It was a big hit. And yet, at the same time, he was wearing specially made cleats that screamed out, "Look at me!" He's an enigma.
