Now I know why Shelton has the Pirates run in contact vs a drawn in infield. He thinks every other team will make the play as bad as his team.

You know what I miss, something I don't see at the park, or even at the grocery store for that matter. Foot long hot dogs.

So a guy we don't mention much is pitching right now. Any thoughts on Jose Hernandez? He was the Rule 5 guy if you recall. He had never pitched above AA before being selected, and IIRC had only the brief stint in Indy this season as a rehab assignment.

He quietly made it through the entire season. He's had some moments good and bad in some high leverage moments.

I think he's a keeper.

Hayes takes advantage of a foul pop that dropped among three guys for a double. It's nice to see someone take advantage of good fortune.

Suwinski can't help out, can't even move him over.

Davis is due for a 2 run HR

Hey Brown, Neil....he's a number one overall draft pick. IDC what the veteran status is of the battery for the Marlins. Quit apologizing in advance

And Rodriguez can't come through this time.

1-12 with RISP, 10 LOB

I wouldn't even have to tell you the name of the team if I posted those numbers, you'd probably guess the Pirates right off the bat. This IMHO is the biggest problem in the organization, and it's almost like it's part of their DNA going back to the NH years.

Berti with a one out steal of third, but Stallings called for interference, and runner sent back to second. Stallings just stood there. Next pitch Stallings sends one to CF that would have scored the runner.

Keeps it 4-2, huge break for the Bucs. How many can they keep squandering in one night?

Other LHPs have come and gone in the BP this season but Hernandez has been the one constant. Rule 5 guys are usually hidden, used almost exclusively in low leverage situations and almost always end up being stashed on the IL for a while. But Hernandez has been used like any other reliever. His ERA is not great (under 5) but not terrible either. He's given up fewer hits than innings, has a good K/9 IP rate of over 11 and a respectable BB/9 IP rate of under 4. For a rookie whose AAA experience consists of 5 games this year on a rehab, he's been pretty impressive. It's easy to forget he's a Rule 5 guy. He might have a bright future.
