Here is my over the top conspiracy theory.  Bring up these kids and let them struggle, so our 'management' team no longer have to answer questions about being competitive this year, or our substandard hitting coach/manager.

I would not put it past them to deflect from taking responsibility.
It's been TWO games. Is there any Pirate on the roster who hasn't gone at least 2 games without a hit? Earlier this season, Suwinski went 12 games without a hit. And he wasn't inexperienced. And who did Peguero and Rodriguez replace in the lineup? Marcano and Hedges. You want them back in the lineup? Give the new guys a chance.

I think it's frustration about the team in general. Things are so bad that we crave immediate improvement and we hope that arrives in the form of the new guys. But that's not realistic. The team stinks. Our all-star pitcher just gave up 5 in the 1st inning. The #1 pitching prospect got bombed. Besides Bednar, there's not a single reliever in the BP who can be counted on. Reynolds is in a 2 for 26 stretch. Santana is 5 for his last 40. Cutch is 3 for his last 30. Suwinski is currently 0 for 16. Can he reach his personal best 0 for 29? Two hitless games by Rodriguez and Peguero are not the problem.

It's also worth noting that hitting is contagious. When some players get red hot and carry the team, others relax, feel less pressure and even gain confidence that they can hit too. For the Pirates, only new guys Davis and Triolo are hitting. Everyone else is pressing and the pitchers are giving up a ton of runs. In the last 15 games, they've given up 6 or more runs 10 times. So David and Triolo can't carry the team unless they can account for 7 or more runs every night. It's gotta be tough for Rodriguez and Peguero to get recalled to a team that can't seem to do anything right and know the fans are waiting for them to immediately improve things. They must feel like they were just promoted to the 7th Cavalry and their first assignment is the Little Big Horn.

This is well said, Bobster. We're all frustrated by the last seven or so years, further compounded by the past two and a half months after that unexpected April start. We want the young talent here and performing at a high level right away because we see that happen with other players on other teams.

The reality is that it's going to take these guys more than a handful of at bats to acclimate themselves, which is why it's so important to have them here now so that most of those growing pains can take place during a season when making the playoffs isn't likely.

While his day to day decisions look questionable, I believe BC's long term plan, where 2024 will be the year the team becomes competitive, is sound. For now, I'm just trying to enjoy those moments, like yesterday's 7th inning, where they show the possibilities to come.
