Need to win this game today. You can't be losing series to teams like the Giants when you are trying to get back over .500 and stay near the top of the division. This is why I won't get too excited with this team after their stretch of 12 of 14 wins because 3 of the last 4 games they have gotten beaten fairly badly and have not looked real good in doing so. You win today you win this series and get back to 3-3 on this trip with a trip to San Diego and a not so good Padres team up next.

We seem to have had a few guys like that. Rajai Davis was a minor league FA from us and has 300+ SB in the majors and almost the hero in the last WS. Pearce ended up getting turned around by Showalter and will rack up over $20 million and close to 100 HR. Sometimes things come together late for some guys but they still end up in the 1% club.

Nothing came together for Gorkys

The hot streak was great but they now wildly inconsistent with no close games at all:

W 13-5

L-3-7

L-3-13

W 10-3

L 3-11

Also - It appears to be time to be worried about Tallion.

Regularly giving up hits and runs, needing many more pitches in an inning than not too long ago, and generally looking very beatable.

Tallion clearly is a champion regardless if he ever wins another game. Returning from a serious facial injury, from surgery and now from testicular cancer it a testament to his strength. I am hoping his recent troubles are little more than a temporary blip, but perhaps he needs more time to regroup.

Just got to win the series. Big game today (Wednesday).

Taillon got ripped off big time last night. So many errors, yet the scorer didn't see it that way. I do wonder why the official scorer is so hesitant on giving players errors? Instead of giving the fielder an error, the pitcher gets screwed. Taillon's line was awful and it shouldn't have been half that bad:

3.0 IP, 9 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Also didn't help Jerry Meals was behind the plate as a few strikes were called balls. How did Meals get a Crew Chief position?

Is there a worse umpire than Jerry ("I'm tired, let's go home now so you're out!") Meals?

I saw a game recently on MLB Network (they use a local feed from the home team, I guess) but the announcers there were talking of how bad Meals is. I had to smile. Not sure how he keeps his job.

Rajai was actually traded ten years ago (in a few days) in a certain trade.

I still know Davis as the player who replaced Bonds on the night he broke the HR record so Bonds can get a standing ovation.

Listening to Wehner, maybe they are just nice guys? Wehner has some funny stories about he and Leyland. One being as he was asking to play more in spring training and Leyland telling him that if wants to make the team he should go hide in hopes they forget about him. Wehner was a career .250 hitter with 4 HRs in 11 years.

Wehner's a funny guy. I spent some time around him at fantasy camps. One night at the hotel lounge (before we stayed at Pirate City), Maz mentioned being a good ping-pong player and Wehner got very loud, challenging Maz and insisting Maz could never beat him. After Maz left, Wehner admitted he knew nothing about ping-pong. They never played. I did play Maz at a later camp and he beat me easily. He's quite good.
