I wouldn't mind a bench outfielder with some pop. I don't know about Cabrera's clubhouse problems, but he was suspended in 2012. That really shouldn't matter at this point.

So, you are like the owner and GM then, not wanting a competitive team.  Trading Harrison and starting Luplow in the OF makes a bad team even worse.  Congrats.  I'd rather have that PED guy Cabrera in the OF than Luplow and that isn't a ringing endorsement for Melky.

What I took from Dog's post is that since it is pretty clear the FO does not intend to compete this year, they might as well trade Harrison for prospects and see what they've got in Luplow.

Personally, I'd keep Harrison at 2B and put Frazier in LF and let Luplow bat everyday in Indy for maybe half a season. But I think the team is already past the point of no return regarding whether they can compete this year. I think we all want a competitive team. But we also see that's not what the FO is going to do this year.

I have no problem with that, but the Harrison market is starting to get weak. Their hesitation of trading him, or placing an enormous value on him that no one will listen might be problematic to that plan. Toronto was interested ... tried ... and moved on. The Muts, I see signing a FA instead of trading Nimmo. The Yanks ... I think they start Torrez at second and sign Todd Frazier to man third until Andjuar is ready. I believe Cashman doesn't want to deal with NH based on how that Cole thing ended as he did give him a better package than Houston did. NH chose quantity over quality.

Then you have Milwaukee. I have no idea why MLB has Sogard as the starting 2B on the depth chart over Villar. Switch them, then you have a better option.

So, where is the market for Harrison?

As I said, I'm fine with keeping Harrison. But as far as a market goes, who knows? Markets can change due to injuries or unexpected poor play from an incumbent.

I agree.  The 2012 PED suspension is just ancillary.  Melky doesn't have pop.  15hr power is yesterday's 10.

The fact that he does nothing well offensively, plays defense like s**t , is old, and declining is why I'm opposed.

He can't play CF and serves no purpose .  Just up the payday a little and sign Dyson.  He does two things very well, plays defense, and steals bases.  He would be a very useful 4th OF.

I would take Melky's bat over anything we have or looking at as a third starting OF, or 4th. It's better than SRod, Luplow, et al. His defense sucks though. Again, I wish we would invest on a competent OF instead of subjecting ourselves to watching non factors.

yeah, it would be better to pay more and get somebody competent in field and at the plate. I know it is relatively unknown to Pirates but other teams get players that can do both.

I have no idea why.   Frazier came in plus defensively in left and hit just as well last year in his first full season.  He a was better player than Melky in 2017.

Why would we take at bats from useable future player(s) for someone who is currently worse and has no future?   At the very least, they are comparable value, I contend that Frazier is better and there's little doubt he was last year.

Melky may end up having a marginally better season than Frazier in 2018. Idk. They're comparable value and Frazier is just breaking into the league while Melky is on his way out.

Well, we are doing that now at catcher for starters as far as playing someone with little future in lieu of someone better. This is Pittsburgh remember, the screwed up franchise.

I'd rather bring in a bench player that plays the outfield. Someone with some pop. That actually could be Osuna. Frazier and Osuna aren't very good fielders. If outfield defense is needed, I expect Rodriguez to step in.

Luplow could have a future. I'd like to see what he can do. I know he doesn't have many Triple A at bats, but overall he had a pretty good 2017.

And Cervelli is better than Diaz.

No, Cervelli isn't. The guy has zero power; isn't a good hitter and is fragile.

Sure, you want to bring in a bench player to add to our big time collection of bench players. Bench players litter this roster champ.

I don't know that Diaz has proven himself to be any more than a AAAA player at this point but I'd like to see him get an extended try.
