Glasnow will be the whipping boy pitcher and Polanco will be the whipping boy position player this year.  They were hyped too much to have any failures.

To be fair it's not like Glasnow has just had a hiccup every now and then

To be completely fair Polanco kinda sucks too.

They are 25 & 26 years old respectively too.

Just my prediction...

I don't know. It seems that often the whipping boy is someone who makes a lot of money.

Well, Cervelli is probably next in line.

Not counting team options, I think Polanco is the most invested player. He has team options in his last two years too.

Whipping boys really aren't guys who have trouble keeping their ERAs under 6.00. Those are called "sucky pitchers"

You've always kinda liked scrubby players though. Like Locke and Pedro (after he couldn't field). Pedro was a whipping boy. Replacement level player after his defense left him... who had super high expectations.

Glasnow needs to put it together to become a whipping boy. He can do it. Step #1. Have success in low leverage bullpen situations.

If they don't put him in the rotation for 162 games this year I'm not really sure what our plan to rebuild is...he clearly has elite talent, trying to alter his delivery last year was a major cluster...but, we have zero chance at success if we can't develop a guy like this. Trevor Williams is nifty, but he's never going to be more than a 5th starter, maybe 4th.

After trading away Cutch and Cole, I'm going to be really disappointed if they leave our most promising arm in the bullpen after they messed with him last year.

Now I liked Jeff Locke?

I just defended those two when others thought players were better. I was never a Locke fan. With Alvarez, I always said he was the best option on the team.

Glasnow will get picked on, you watch. He threw 100 mph in his spring debut and people brought it up as a negative.

He's been an easy pitcher to dislike. Works crazy slow, has no control, and gets destroyed. Fans do tend to turn on pitchers like that. Yes, I believe you're right it's a likely outcome that Glasnow gets "picked on". Pitchers that suck and keep getting inning after inning of chances tend to get picked on. All he has to do is be a decent pitcher and I'm sure the fickle fans will stop bullying him on message boardsd

But there ya go again, attacking fans. We've got a group of fans who regularly complain and criticize player and organizational performance ... and then we have this group of fans and bloggers who attack those fans for complaining.

Everyone should just shut up and take what they get.
