Before Harrison got hurt, Rodriguez started three times. He started 14 times while Harrison was out. Then he started four games since Harrison came back. He started in CF before Meadows was called up when Marte went down too. Harrison was still out during that time.



He was the top CF back up and the best defensive middle infield back up. His starts are up overall because those two positions he was the main back up. Frazier blew his chance when Harrison went down.



I have a problem with his last four starts for sure. There are better players and a full squad. I'd rather start the other guys on the depth chart. Rodriguez hasn't had that big hit in a long time. He should be used as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. He had enough chances, he blew it too.

The appearance of swinging for the fences is what I have noticed. Since his career year in 2016, Sean is hitting .167, with an OPS of .586, and a strike out rate of 40.3% /ab. His career strike out rate is 30.5%.



I would think he would be better served to cut down the swing, keep his eye on the ball, and just make solid contact.

I think he'd be better if he played less. I still think he'd be useful but not when counted on as a starter.

BTW JHay was injured April 15th. We had played 15 games to that point. You had pointed out that SRod started 4 of them (27%), which isn't much below his overall pace. That would still be a 44 game per season starting pace.



FYI This season, SRod has started:



-7 games at shortstop,

-6 games at 2b,

-3 games in CF

-6 games in LF.



That 22 starts in 59 games. 37% of games. Yes, he has started in 4 of the last 8, but it's the same formula. Left handed starters. Hurdle is going to start him and put him in as a defensive replacement far too early unless he's make unavailable.



There's a lot of game on his game log where he's getting 3-4-5 innings. That's not exactly defensive replacement work.

Remember, they traded Conner Joe to get S-Rod back. The former 1st round pick is healthy and finally showing why he was picked so high, typically though, for another team. I think they gave up too early on Joe.

After 20 games and batting .135, the Braves traded him to the Dodgers for International money. He has nice stats so far this year, but is 25 in Double A. The Pirates had other players pass him up. They traded a top pick to help the current club and now that looks bad.
