That’s just another example of Ray Searage standing in the way of a pitcher’s development. That Astros pitching coach tells his pitchers not to do that.

Maybe the Pirates need to turn him into a pitch-to-contact sinker ball pitcher: the Brewers are hitting him HARD.  He’s lucky to only be down 3 runs.

That's disappointing. I expected Taillon to become another one of those outstanding starting pitchers developed under the watch of the great guru Ray Searage like.....uh...wait a minute...uh...I'm sure there's somebody....like...uh...I'm sure it'll come to me. Oh! Oh! I got it! Oops, no never mind. Maybe...nah. Well, maybe Tailon will be the first. Maybe.




Searage is the guru for reclamation projects; not high end talents. Even his reclamation project magic is in question now.

Yeah, I'm not sure how long we hold onto this whole idea of Searage being a miracle worker. His track record with young starters isn't very good.

I don't know that I subscribe to the Ray Searage magic, but the notion that he's somehow holding Pirates pitchers back is at least equally silly. Kuhl, Kingham, Williams and Musgrove seem to be progressing at a rate one might have hoped for so far. Taillon looked great and then sustained injuries and health issues. He still has only thrown 320 MLB innings and has an ERA+ of 104. He's not even close to a failure yet. Cole had a solid Pirates career that saw him escalate to one of the best pitchers in the game under Searage. I don't know what happened later, but it wouldn't seem to be due to Searage being incompetent. In other words, Searage has had two top young talents and neither can be characterized as failures under his watch and he's bringing along a very young staff pretty well right now.
