Dang those large market clubs get all of the good players.  Oh wait....

If only the guy who owns the Reds owned the Pirates instead.
If only the guy who owns the [insert name of any other MLB team] owned the Pirates instead. :'(

Here is Nutting's response to any discussion of re-signing players.

And yet the Cubs roster is filled with well-paid veterans.  Hardly an LMG in sight.  Why didn't those guys win?
Exactly, it looks like TB may be the best team around thanks to smart management from the top down. They absolutely stole us blind with the incompetent NH and CH.

_______

The Diamondbacks stole us blind for Marte with the incompetent BC too.

I don't know if we have lost on that deal yet. To me it signaled that BC doesn't expect to have a winner until 2023 or 2024. One (and hopefully both) of these guys might contribute by then. Now if neither is better than Colin Moran and Musgrove it is a loss.

Yes, we lost on the deal. We won 19 games, and the guys we received in return for a former All Star didn't help us to get any closer to the 20th.

To me it signaled that BC didn't care if we won in 2020, and doesn't care if we win until the cows come home.

I agree we did not acquire any players to help with this past season, but we cannot rate this trade until Malone and or Pegaro join the majors in a couple years. From what I read Arizona flipped Marte to the Marlins for two lesser type players than what Pittsburgh acquired. So down the road Arizona may have taken the hit on the Marte deal.
