Right now, I wonder through the entire organization from top to bottom, where they stand with NH acquisitions and BC as far as the numbers go.
As far as the active roster, there are 14 BC choices, 12 NH. For the 40 man, there are 21 BC and 25 NH
For the people who keep claiming BC is doing nothing, he's already overhauled almost half of the 40 man roster. That's pretty significant considering who makes up a teams 40 man roster.
When they break camp next season, you won't find much of a NH imprint on the team at all. Nor will they be any remaining bad NH contracts, because we all know Polanco will be gone.
That's an impressive overhaul in such a short time. Time will tell if it yields results. Those who say BC has done nothing seem to believe nothing counts unless it immediately improves the major league roster. Obviously, BC's plan to improve the MLB roster starts with improving the talent pool in the minors and he has focused a lot on that and very little on the MLB roster, which is in sad shape. To say he has done nothing is clearly wrong. He just hasn't done what those critics want him to do. He may yet fail if his acquisitions turn out no better than NH's. But we'll have to wait and see on that. He'll get praised or criticized depending on the results of this rebuild he's undertaken. Not on how the MLB squad does this year.
Excellent post. I get so infuriated when fans say that BC has done nothing. He has a plan, and he is following it from bringing in players with upside as well as personnel under him who are very good baseball people. I am probably in the minority, but the Pirate Organization is trending upwards.
the only question I have about BC's plan and execution is the time frame. If he is looking at 2024 or 2025 that is too late for me. He needs to have the team a contender in the 2023 season to be a successful gm to me.

Don't know what the future will bring but the acquisition of
Anderson is a major plus for Cherington

I agree it's a positive that NH's players will be gone but at least some of those players should've been making their way to Pittsburgh, or already here. There are big holes BC has to fill at all levels of the system because Huntington's drafts, particularly the last five or six, yielded very little.

Those 3 have struggled since signing professional contracts.

With all the high tech technology, analytics, and scouting, you wonder how they could get this so wrong
I know all teams miss on their choices, too, even the first rounders. But for Huntington to miss on so many of the first choices was crippling for this organization.

To be fair, NH had the same plan. It's just that it was executed so poorly in the player choices and/or the development of those players. I know BC has to be doing a better job. It couldn't possibly be worse.

Just noticed that Cruz made his fifth error at shortstop tonight. I think it is about time for the Pirates to move him to the outfield. If you build a team with pitching and defense Cruz just won’t give solid defense at shortstop.

Also Liover Peguero (A+) is just one notch below Cruz (AA) in the minors and would be pushing Cruz if Cruz got the Bucs SS job. So it would make sense to groom Cruz for another position.

Cruz with a big game this afternoon. Four hits, 4 rbi and his fifth home run. I guess the brain trust still believes he can play shortstop, because I don’t think he has played any outfield. It is good to see he is handling AA pitching.

In November when they set the winter roster for the Rule 5 draft, I wonder if the Bucs will return Soriano to the Angels because they may need the roster spot to protect one of their own prospects.
