Very sad news. He took the country by storm his first year, like Mark Fydrich had done a few years before him. Both were funky in their own way. Both left us way too early.

Charlie Morton plunked eighteen more batters this year, running his career total to 186. That ties him for seventh place all-time on the HBP list, with Tim Wakefield. It seems Morton is contemplating retirement, but if he does come back next year he could easily jump over Randy Johnson and Eddie Plank, who are tied for #5 on the list at 190. Walter Johnson at #4 has 205, which seems a remote goal.
On the batters' side, Starling Marte was hit just three times. That ran his career total to 157, tied with Fernando Vina for #20 on the all-time list. Marte is eight plunks behind Kid Elberfeld and 13 behind Derek Jeter, who is #18 on the list.

Former Bucs Anthony Banda and Dan Hudson earn World Series rings, the second for Hudson (2019 Nationals).

He hit a robust .152 for the Indians. Maybe he can work out with Andy Haines in the offseason to try to regain that nifty .180 form he had for the Pirates.
