With so many other things to gamble on, and it being permitted for Marcano to do so, it was just plain stupid to bet on baseball. He may have an addiction to gambling, but that isn’t an excuse because he obviously knew the consequences of betting on his own sport. To risk throwing his career away is tragic, but the blame lies only with him.
