_______
When the Pirates salary dump Archer, I will give the team that acquires him a 1.
You confuse the heck out of me. You want Cherington to acquire well-paid veterans in favor of LMGs but, when he sends said veterans away, you criticize him. Can you give me a User's Guide so I can understand how to be a Pirates fan?
________
Your post makes no sense. I would like to see Cherington keep Archer. If he salary dumps him, of course I am going to criticize him.
Given that very few pitchers successfully come back from the surgery that Archer had, you would still want him back at his contract rate? Your preference for veterans is starting to cloud your judgment. Few pitchers have successfully resumed their careers after that surgery, the most recent being Matt Harvey.

I certainly don't think that Archer is the greatest alternative and that is why I only rate him as a 1, but I would still rather have him than throwing another LMG out there and hoping for the best.

I don't blame you for wanting to keep Archer over a LMG...but only if he didn't have that type of surgery. This isn't a healthy "not the greatest option".
Got me to thinking. If the Pirates take the buyout option, I believe Archer becomes a FA, no?
If that's the case, and Archer gets nothing more than a ST invite, meaning every single GM including ours didn't think he was worth the money, would that justify the dump then?

I'd probably bring him back if everything seems on track. He seems like a good enough guy despite everything, and if he can get back to something near where he was it would make for a nice piece.

It would mean that teams think that he's worth the money, but they don't need him. They have better pitchers than the Pirates.

He was my favorite player once they sent Cutch and JHay packing. Really enjoyed his antics.
If he can't pitch anymore, I wonder if he could coach third base?

I'm talking in general terms. You never seem happy.

Wait, wait, wait! If BC dumps Archer, you'll be angry. Yet if another team acquires him, he's only worth a "1"? If he's only worth a "1", why would you want him to remain a Pirate? Don't you want the team to win?

In the event that no other teams wants him, then I would look at who replaces him for the Pirates. If he is replaced by a LMG and the overall team salary drops, then it is a salary dump. We are 29th in team payroll, there is absolutely no reason for the team salary to drop even further. However, if he is replaced by a major league ball player and the team salary remains the same or increases then that would not be a salary dump.

1>0. Will you not be happy until the whole team is LMG's?
