What makes you think he's going to get started?  :-?

This alcohol?

I personally will give him until the end of April and if we are still seeing the same things we saw yesterday from Polanco on a day to day basis then it’s time to pull the plug. I would rather them call up O Neil Cruz at this point and play him everyday in RF rather than see Polanco just continue to stink everytime he is out there.

There's nothing more I'd like to see than Polanco's immediate release, but that brings nothing in return. All that's left is to play him for four months in hope that he does something, anything, that will fool another GM who finds himself in a bind between now and the Deadline. It's sad that it's come to this but Polanco never reached his potential, for whatever reason. His inconsistencies with both his performance and being able to stay healthy kept him from being a good player.

I think it's important to listen outside of our sphere. Here's the problem with Polanco that I've read elsewhere:

Even if he gets on a hot streak, everyone will see that for what it is. There is nothing he can do that will be sustained.

Most importantly is the biggest issue, his inability to throw the ball. He plays one position. If every ball that goes a little deeper in the gap that is normally a "make you field and put in a strong throw quickly" kind of single that he continually makes a double, there is no amount of hitting to make up for that.

He doesn't have the bat speed. He'll never be a DH option.

So, if he "gets hot" the Pirates are still going to have to eat almost all of his contract if they want any kind of return that has some "upside".

I honestly think they hope he can give them some sort of league average play to justify his salary. If he keeps going like this after a few weeks, I would not be surprised that the first huge financial decision made in the BC years is releasing Polanco.

I am sure that doc would be the first one to open the exit door!

I'm sure that Gregory Polanco is a nice man and well-liked by his teammates. But I'm not a friend or even an acquaintance of his. My relationship is that of a fan so I simply want him to be a good Pirate. He's not, and rarely has been. So when he leaves, it'll be good for the Pittsburgh Pirates, which is what I care about the most. Now, when Ronnie Cedeno left, that was awesome.
