Just noticed that Al McBean passed away. May he rest in peace.
Bob Prince loved to say his full name. Alvin O’Neal McBean. One of my favorites as a kid. Thanks for the good memories, AOM.fjk090852-7 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 12:03 am Just noticed that Al McBean passed away. May he rest in peace.

I also remember a game at Forbes Field which my father and I attended and McBean was the starting pitcher, and I believe he hit a grand slam homer. Maybe the game was in 1967 or 68.Doc wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 2:21 amBob Prince loved to say his full name. Alvin O’Neal McBean. One of my favorites as a kid. I remember listening to that on the radio. It's a big day when you're a kid and one of your favorite players hits a grand slam.fjk090852-7 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 4:30 amfjk090852-7 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 3:39 amI remember the Gunner calling him that. Thanks for posting the box score. I noticed time of game 2 hours and 14 minutes. Add another hour to that game today.Possum wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 1:19 pmHere you are Doc. The box score for the July 28, 1968 game vs the Cards.
McBean Grand Slam Game
I took another look at that box score and 4 players including McBean were selected in the year end expansion draft by the Padres or Expos. The other players included Mota, Wills, and my favorite Clendenon. Coming in 1969 we would see the Baby Bucs, Hebner, Oliver, and Robertson.fjk090852-7 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 2:39 pmThanks for posting the box score. I noticed time of game 2 hours and 14 minutes.
