Cherington is starting to look like a one and done guy.

The team is minus Chris Archer, Trevor Williams, Jameson Taillon, Joe Musgrove. Now, with the pickup, have they improved the starting rotation or not? Consider Taillon and Archer have to still prove they have successfully recovered from injury, Williams appeared to never have from two seasons ago. Musgrove and Anderson were each given a 2.5 by the esteemed panel.

Is a potential rotation of Anderson, Keller, Brault, Brubaker, and a question mark better than, equal to, or less than one that could have been Archer, Taillon, Musgrove, and probably Keller, and a question mark? All things considered, including injury.

If I gave you one set of four, disregarding the question mark for the 5th guy, which set are you taking?
Do you mean my best four of all those mentioned above?
I was asking Shed, but to answer your question, one group or the other, not choosing between the two. Basically, what we have now versus what we had before all the trades/releases.
Would have rather gone with Archer(says he is 100%) Musgrove

etc. thanks for clearing that up

It looks like Cherington has successfully punted away the 2021 season. Now he can begin work on punting away the 2022 season. He can start at the trade deadline. If the team does well, then at the trade deadline he can use "I didn't want to upset the team chemistry". If the team does poorly, he can use "there is no point spending on some aging veterans when we weren't going to win anyway. Then in the 2021-2022 Off Season, Polanco will come off the books and he can dump Brian Reynolds and K'Bryan Hayes for some suspects. Then just kick the can down the road to 2026. Meantime BOB's cash register goes CHA-CHING.

I predict 2024 he'll be on a new team. Myers, Snell, Pomeranz and Darvish contracts end in 2023, Hosmer's no trade portion ended this season, Profar can be bought out for 1 million. That's potentially 85 million coming off the books. I think the Padres are betting on a 2022 season, and have a 4 year run (counting 2020) at winning it all. Tatis, Hosmer, Machado (if he doesn't opt out after 2023) will all be traded, they all have 2 or more years of control, unless MM opts out.

Just my prediction. They have bumped up in payroll close to that 85 million figure since 2019. 2024 they only have 67 mill on the books, and that's counting Tatis, Machado, and Hosmer.

That's where they are getting the money. They will be the doing the Pirates/Indians/Rockies thing come 2024. Just my thoughts.
