Also regarding the roster, as of June 19 MLB rules will limit teams to 13 pitchers. So the Pirates will add a nonpitcher, likely someone coming off the IL. Although Cruz can't be far off either, so that will be another roster decision.

I asked this question before and I don't believe I received an answer. What is the reason for limiting teams to 13 pitchers? No other Professional Sport does this. Foe example: Basketball, doesn't limit the number of Centers, Football- QBs Hockey, Defensemen, and so on

I believe it's part of MLB's attempt to speed up games by reducing managers' options for pitching changes.

I mentioned it before, but I think MLB should do like hockey, and for each game make two players inactive. The previous starting pitcher and the next day starting pitcher would be inactive. You still would have a 26 man game roster, but the team actually carries 28 players. I would assume Owners would object to this idea since they would have to pay 2 additional players on the roster per year.

Did everyone know that this is a rule? You can't bring in a non-pitcher to pitch if you're within five runs:

I knew there was a rule but not the details. Five seems low to me.

How is that any different than just expanding the roster to 28? The only way they would end up using tomorrow's picture would be if you had some ridiculously long marathon exta inning game.

One of them will probably only be the extra player allowed for doubleheaders (Tuesday). The other will require a roster move to add to the 26 man roster. I'm guessing they are expecting Chang to catch a cold and go on the IL.

On the PG website, Mackey is expecting Swaggerty to be sent out.
