Must be on there for lack of hitting! :D
You might be right, Possum. The nature of the injury has not been disclosed and the Pirates have a pattern of finding injuries for slumping players to at least temporarily get them off the active roster. Probably every player gets nicked up with minor injuries so sometimes they take advantage of that and stash them on the IL just to avoid playing them. Ben Gamel started practicing at 1B last Saturday while Yoshi started that day and the next 3 games. It almost looks like Cherington had a psychic premonition that Yoshi could be getting hurt soon.
Cherington must have gone out on a limb to get Nutting to go to his underground cavern, cross the alligator filled moat, past the Civil War veteran security guard and open the vault to pay Yoshi 4 million to stay this year. And now that decision is looking very, very bad. Hard to imagine Cherington admitting he made a huge mistake costing Nutting 4 million. But a convenient injury allows for him to be replaced without admitting what a failure he has been. The injury might be a case of SHD (severe hitting deficiency).

He sure did. It got worse in Indy where he's 2 for 24 (.083). The hitting doctors have not found a cure.

A team that would bat VanMeter 4th must think a guy hitting .229 in AAA is pure gold.
