I think the negative publicity has got the Pirates attention for sure. I think before the calendar turns to the New Year some significant additions will be made to the roster. No we won’t sign Soto, but they won’t be players who are past their prime. My guess their will be 3 additions prior to PirateFest.

I predicted three additions by PirateFest, and so far they have added Spencer Horwitz who I am intrigued with. Horwitz stats versus left handed pitchers are not great, but his stats versus right handed pitchers are very good. Possibly he will platoon with Endy, or Billy Cook whenever a lefty starts. I am hoping for them to bring on board a corner outfielder, and a bullpen addition very soon. I sure hope Ben Cherington doesn’t trade either Keller,or Jones in order to acquire an outfielder or bullpen arm. I will be very disappointed if he breaks up our top three starting pitchers.

An open letter to Bob N.
I attended my first Pirate game in 1961, I was 8 at the time. I fell in love with baseball and my Pirates. My favorite player was Donn Clendenon . Players like Maury Wills, Jim Bunning joined some of the 1960s teams, but the Bucs never got to the WS. The 1970s were special with players like Blass, Parker, Stargell, and Sangy just to name a few. I was at the DH in August 1979 when John Milner hit the walkoff pinch hit grand slam to win the first game. I have many memories like the playoff’s in the early 1990s. Game 7 of the 1992 playoff broke my heart because like many knew the players like Drabek and Bonds were leaving due to free agency. Kevin McClatchey came along in 1996 to save the Bucs from leaving Pittsburgh to Northern Virginia. Due to the player turnover Jim Leyland decided to leave the Bucs to manage a team that would compete for the postseason. In the meantime a new ballpark was on the horizon with the idea that additional revenue streams would give the Pirates the availability to compete. I attended the ground breaking and the first two games at PNC Park the best ballpark in America. It took several years to compete, but we returned to the postseason in 2013, 2014 and 2015. I attended the playoff game vs the Reds and it was the best game I ever attended. What excitement! We are now in another drought and it seems you don’t care if the Pirates win or lose. You have the Rookie of the Year pitcher on your team, and you and your staff have only added a first baseman so far this offseason.Sure it is only December and it is 2 months until ST, but other teams are adding to their rosters. I am getting to the point where I don’t care. It is sad you are unwilling to spend money on your team. Letters, billboards don’t phase you because you don’t love baseball like many of us fans do. It is like the newspaper business for you. It is too bad you never went to a baseball game with your Dad when you were 8 years old and got you to love baseball.

Some Baseball team owners, as well as the Commissioner are putting pressure on the
Tampa Bay Rays owner to sell his team. If this is true why don’t they go after the Pirates owner? That would make the Pirates Nation feel like Christmas, July 4th and Thanksgiving all fell on the same day.

I wonder if this is a precursor to moving the Rays out of Florida. By forcing a sale to another owner, the owners could target one who would prefer to move the team. Regular season baseball in Florida hasn't worked, in either Tampa or Miami. The majority of Tampa residents may not put up much of a fuss with losing the team because it would save them from one day building a $300 million ballpark.

I am sure it won’t carry any weight, but Ken Rosenthal had a commentary stating that Bob Nutting should sell the Pirates if he is not going to invest in the team. Maybe if more of the National Media gets on the bandwagon Nutting may start feeling the heat.

Since the Pirates are only a tenant at PNC Park, and not owner, people could bring in banners etc telling Bob to sell the team. The Park is a facility paid with tax payers dollars, so couldn’t banners be permitted?

Did anyone read the “Behind the Curtain” piece by Noah Hiles in the Post-Gazette this morning? It discussed the Pirates use of a research and development department. The article gave plenty of space to the two people within the department who oversee it. They gushed about how much their R&D helps all the front office staff, coaches, and players.
The only thing that matters in Major League Baseball is winning games. And in case they haven’t noticed, the team’s record at the end of eight of the past nine seasons has been below .500. Instead of paying for all the R&D department costs them, how about spending that money on scouts who are superb at identifying amateur talent, and then follow that up with hiring the best coaches in the business to develop that talent?

I have read that a group in Nashville is working with a group to look for land for an eventual MLB Ballpark. I could see our carpetbagger of an Owner selling the Pirates to a Nashville Group whenever the lease expires in 2030 at PNC Park. I hate to say it, but I do not trust that man.
