Didn't know where to put this without creating a new thread.
Not a fan of the Home Run Derby but was wondering if or when
a Pirate ever participated.

Josh Bell in 2019
Pedro Alvarez in 2013
Cutch in 2012
Jason Bay 2005
Barry Bonds 1992
bobby Bonilla 1990

I think Bay didn't hit a single HR. I remember the uproar over either Cutch or Alvarez, because the broadcaster, I think it was ESPN, talked over the entire time at bat, never once commenting on the player hitting, rather blathering on about someone else.

I barely remember Bell being in it, I might have not watched it. I have no idea if the event was even televised back in the Bonds and Bonilla days. I certainly don't recall having watched it.

I watched the final 4 last night. It's just so hard to watch, because they are showing a ball flying on one side of the split screen, and the player on the other side. So you might see him swinging at one pitch while the previous one is still in flight.

I think it would be fun to be there in person, but televised it's pretty boring. Certainly makes it more interesting if a Pirate were in it.

I knew either you or Bobster would have the answer. Thanks

I remember Bell in the HR derby. At the AS break he was hitting 302 with 27 HRs. He was very excited to be in the contest. When the schedule resumed after the break, Bell continued to swing as if he was still in the HR derby. The result was a 2nd half of the season hitting .233 with 10 HRs. I don't think Bell was ever as good a hitter after that HR derby as he was prior to it.
There's no basement in the Alamo.

Sholei Ohtani hit a 473 shot in Dodgers stadium. Not the longest in the history of stadium. That honor belongs to our own HOFer Willie Stargell a 506 foot shot! Go Bucs!

Colorado dropped 20 on the Red Sox last night- Jacob Stallings 3-4 and 4 RBI's
With the White Sox 10-2 loss to the Rangers yesterday, they are now 50 games under .500

I don't think we were ever that bad? I'll be interested to see their attendance figures the last 2 months of season.

I think July 24th was the infamous Pine Tar incident with George Brett.

Has to be longest game in MLB history seeing how game ended 25 days later.
