The Mets also have the payroll and big market notoriety to have a very good chance of getting Rocker to stay and have a long career with them. But now they'll have to go through a few years of growing pains with him as he matures as a pitcher instead of having the Pirates draft him and take care of that before they signed him as a free agent.

I agree with what you're saying here.  Rocker is better off with the Mets than attempting to save the Pirates from themselves.

My concern is that if the Pirates intentionally passed on any kid mainly because of finances, that it would tell me that very little is changing.

I get the impression that BOB and Boras have little regard for each other.

That said, since I don't know whether finances played a part in the selection , I have an open mind.  We have a good kid of our own, and let's see how he grows.

The real question is whether the Pirates can sign these guys. They'll need some under-slot signings to gather extra cash.

1. I think Kumar Rocker will be the best player to come out of the top 10 picks. If the Pirates had been contenders, or on the brink of contention, he would have been my choice with the first pick.

How about Adam Frazier to the Mets for a PTBNL?

Mayer and Davis represent two different timelines.  Drafting a HS kid would have depressed me. Davis tells me Ben is thinking 2, 3 years max.  Arrive for Hayes and Reynolds.
Oh, I agree with the timeline statement. Was just relieved that the didn't do something foolish and take the guy out of Boston College that folks were talking about. Fralick?

Remember when Dusty Baker's kid was scooped up at home plate during the World Series?

He just got drafted. How old do you feel now?

I have felt old ever since Tito Francona's kid Terry became a player, played 10 years, retired, and then became a manager. I still remember dad Tito as a player. :o

Wow. This has the smell of Boras. The Mets are willing to sale out the rest of their draft for this guy.
