Nice game for a guy batting 8th in the lineup. But there is a reason he was hitting 8th. In 400 prior MLB games he never had anything close to a game like that. He entered the season with a .239 career BA and 19 HRs in 1,007 ABs. As a 26 year old rookie in 2017 he his .249 as Seattle's 4th OFer. He had the same role in 2019 but played CF regularly for about 10 weeks during which he batted .222 with 2 HRs and 9 RBIs.

He was traded to TB in November 2018 and hit .225 for them in 2019 as reserve OFer. Rays released and Pirates signed him for 2020. He played in 8 games and hit .188 before they waived him. Mets picked him up and he hit .212 for them. Mets waived him this year and he caught on with Atl as a reserve OFer. He had a great game last night but those were his first hits of 2021. But now with 2 of their 3 starting OFers hurt, he may get more of a chance. But he was basically a dumpster dive acquisition for the Braves. I wish him well but don't regret not having him as a Pirate.

Cutch is off to a very slow start with the Phillies. Through 14 games he is hitting .170 with a home run and 5 rbi. He has been a slow starter in the past, but possibly he is beginning to decline.

doc had mentioned in a previous post that he thinks Cutch's decline has begun

Walker played almost 800 games before getting established in the majors. Got a crash course at second when Aki Iwamura was terrible, got the job when Iwamura was injured, and was a rock at second base for six years.

I've been a Pirate fan since 1966. When the local kid Walker hit two homers to bring the postseason back to Pittsburgh for the first time in 20 years, it was the only time I ever shed a tear over a baseball game.

It would be nice if the Pirates did something for him and he could retire as a Pirate. Like a one day contract at the end of the season
