Is it because our catching is so good?
Wolters was the Rockies' starting catcher the past 2 years and hasn't been in the minors since 2017. (His backup last year was our former catcher Elias Diaz). I can't blame Wolters for opting out when informed he would not make the team, so that he could hook on with another team instead of going back to the minors.

Tyler Glasnow with six shoutout innings, six strikeouts, and no walks, while Austin Meadows hit a HR to win the game, 1-0, on Opening Day.

Okay Doc, that means that the Rays have the same record as the Bucs but we did it the hard way.

The Pirates lead the league in doing things the hard way.

Maybe if the Pirates had players like Glasnow and Meadows they wouldn't have to do things the hard way. Oh wait....never mind.

I'm guessing that I'm the only one who missed this: 2012 #2 pick Wyatt Mathison, now 27, got into 9 games with the D-backs last year, and is on their Opening Day roster. Mathison left the Pirates as a minor league free agent after the 2018 season, restarted his career with 23 homers at Reno in 2019. Mostly playing 3d base.

I was looking at the Gameday for the Rays and Marlins game and Archer came in the game as relief, but he did not get an out in his third inning of pitching. He had thrown 52 pitches in 2 plus innings. While he pitched for the Pirates that was always a big concern. He would throw several pitches, and most of the time he was gone either at 5 innings or even less. His final hitter was Marte, and I think it was a 9 pitch at bat before he singled.

Archer entered the TB game in relief in the 5th inning today. He went 2 innings, 52 pitches, 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned).

Brandon Waddell called up by Twins.
