I have a blah feeling with Day 2 of the Pirates draft. Several pitchers and one position player. It appears none of the pitchers are overwhelming. Maybe a couple future bullpen arms. Forester the infielder might be a future first baseman or even a DH. We will see how the Draft develops tomorrow.

I've seen that too, but I'm not really sure how people thought the current "pitcher prospect of the century" or whatever they're calling him would be an underslot value pick.

I think we'll see something early tomorrow with a couple of hard-to-sign HSers.



In 21 we went overslot to get some kids to choose MiLB over their commitment to college football. I am wondering if NIL makes buying those type of commitments a lot more expensive. There will be something interesting I would guess ...

Perhaps some of the pitchers are two-way players, otherwise, some of the coaches may need to play in the Rookie League games so the Bucs can field a team.

I may be behind the times, but seems like something is different this year. Through six rounds today, I think only 27 of the 180 players drafted were HS players. Moreover, about 50 players from the MLB top 250 prospects list -- several in the top 100 -- remain undrafted.



Maybe agents have instructed teams not to draft their players, or maybe NIL money is impacting this.



One player I was interested in was Will Gasparino -- rated 75 in the MLB draft rankings. His father is a lead scout with the Dodgers.

Not that I know anything about this stuff. I just counted 49 of the top 250 rated guys on the MLB site haven't been drafted, and they are in the 18th round. Baltimore just took the 76th rated guy.



I have no idea if it's common 20 percent of the top 250 don't get drafted. Like you said, a lot of top 100 guys not picked, 9 in all, including the 42nd and 44th rated guys. They obviously have solid commitments, but is NIL money that much they can forego being a second round pick, those two guys at 42 and 44? The Astros slot of second round is 1.3 million!!
