Sam Howard continues on his quest to prove to the world that he has no business being an MLB pitcher. Color me convinced!!!

Neil Walker with an honest critique of the Pirates' strategy. He says you have to wonder how long they can routinely use 4-5 pitchers each game.

What I hate about MLB: Padres with a 4-run lead and 1 out but Pirates' 2nd hit of the 9th makes it a save situation. Greg Brown notes that: "this forces Bob Melvin to use his closer." Which could hurt SD in subsequent games in the series if the closer is overused.

But with a comfortable 4 run lead, the only thing "forcing" the use of the closer is a stat. Gotta get that save whenever it's available. Even if it means not having the closer available in a close game tomorrow or the next day when a lot of relievers could have closed out a 7-3 game.

Record since the alleged "No Big Deal" Game?  1 and 4.

So much for no big deals.

Well, how about that?  Thanks to tonight's scoring bonanza, we're now on pace to score 575 runs this year.  .  Whatever you picked in the tie-breaker, take the "under."
