I never knew a non balk call can be changed especially by a player and that's what happened

1. Mollina caught between 2nd and 3rd claiming Brubaker balked.

2. No balk called and Molina tagged out for 3rd out. Pirates leave field.

3. Molina confers with all 4 umps and umps continue discussion.

4. Umps decide to call the balk after the fact, nullifying the fact that time had not been called when Molina was tagged out.

5. Inning continues and Cards score a run.

Looks like I will have to watch this game when I get home to see how this play unfolded.

Hard to believe that the Pirates have 5 position players on the bench. Less hard to believe, the highest batting average among the 5 if .228 (Vogelbach), and that the others dream of hitting like Mario Mendoza.

I see where Brubaker has thrown 81 pitches through only 4 innings. In short, today's double-header is not going to go well.

Perhaps Delay was added to the roster because there is a rumor that he has a devastating curve-ball as a mop-up pitcher.

Would not be surprised if someone said something into an ear set, sent a signal, something to let them know the ENTIRE CREW missed an EGREGIOUS, HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL BALK!!!

It wasn't Molina, it was pure face saving on their parts. They look even worse now. I didn't see it, was listening on the way back from the driving range, and Walk was really upset about the delay, but I think he was just as incredulous that 4 MLB umpires could miss such an obvious balk.

It figures.

Reynolds is now as hot as the weather in St. Louis. Guess he didn't want to be embarrassed when 7,000 fans stream into PNC to get his bobble-head.

Hayes just the opposite, a .160 average in his last 7 games, and .226 in his last 30. I know most players experience hot and cold streaks through-out the season, but Hayes really needs to show more if he is to be the team's long-term 3rd baseman.

I continue to not understand:

1. Why Chang keeps playing. They keep bringing up guys who end up sitting for him to continue getting playing time he doesn't deserve.

2. How Joe Block and Bob Walk can not only belabor a point, but to the point of talking over each other about the point, agreeing on the point, but continuing to talk about the point in three other directions. They are horrid together.

Third error by Castillo. Brubaker deserved a better fate.

Then again, what difference will it make if there are still zeroes on our end of the scoreboard?

Chang will soon (perhaps as soon as game 2) be batting clean-up.
