I don’t think they will select their #1 draft pick by need. If an infielder or catcher is available they will probably select him. I will be surprised if they selected a pitcher in the first round. I am not sure what others think, but I miss having the draft in June.

I agree, I think there are a lot of advantages to having the draft in June and getting players started playing professionally by July.



the entire re-organizing of the minor leagues wasn't needed in my opinion.

My preferences in tiers -

[olist]Jones, Green, Parada

Johnson, Holliday, Lee

Collier, Berry[/olist]



There aren’t any pitchers worth having near the top with all of the injuries this spring, IMO. If BC follows his trend (college hitter first), expect pitchers in the comp round and 2nd. May look a lot like the 2020 draft if it’s Parada due to bonus demands.

Did Pirates send Peguero back to AA or promote to AAA ?

Parada is the pick. 2 stud hitting catchers is the way to go. Everyone wants a catcher who can hit. They give lip service to Defense stuff. They all want hitters. Pirates can have 2 easy.Joey Bart was a sure thing and he got sent down recently.

Newman is going to start his rehab in Indianapolis. So maybe the plan is to promote Peguero when Newman completes his rehab ?

On another note , Peguero just really looks the part. I'm thinking mid 2023 but where do they play him ? Seems like we have an extra guy without figuring Newman or Castillo. Marcano looks to be a good 2nd base prospect and obviously the other 2 at SS. Personally , I think Cruz is too big for SS and somehow I get the idea he's going to sulk if asked to play the OF. On yet another note , it appears that the one hole we will have when (2023?) all the dust clears is 1LB. Mason Martin is sinking pretty fast...

Would you trade one? Or platoon them, thus using 2 very high draft picks to get 50% production out of 2 players? If that's the plan, why not use those 2 high picks to address 2 different needs and get 100% production out of 2 players.
