Game ends on disgustingly ignorant decision by 3B coach. Runners at 1B and 3B and Vogelbach singles to CF. Newman is sent from 1B with absolutely no chance and is out at home by about 20 feet. Maybe 30. I'm sorry but if you get a hit with 2 outs to score 1 run and make it 4-3, don't arbitrarily end the game because you needed 2 runs. The top of the order is coming up and that's your only chance to get the tie run in from 3B. Or you could do it the Piratey way and just send the 2nd runner anyway with no chance to score because having the first runner score wasn't enough. Nutting's bargain basement manager and coaching staff are not helping.

Mike Rabelo should be fired immediately. Don’t come back tomorrow. The most important criteria for a third base coach is judgment. Rabelo’s judgment on that play was the act of an imbecile.

Hoping for the comeback and some good bullpen work

I tried to find his lifetime average against the Pirates but they haven't invented a number that high yet. Sometimes I think the Pirates should trade for him just so they don't have to pitch to him anymore.

They look ridiculous, as do so many of the other special uniforms other teams are wearing. Are these uniforms increasing interest in the game so much that they're necessary? Sometimes it seems that baseball wants to rid itself of its traditions, which are the best of all the other sports.

It's gotten to the point that whenever I see his name or he is coming to bat, I think of doc.

If Kolten Wong makes you think of me, I suggest you seek help from a medical professional, but I’m not sure which kind.

Brewers SS Wily Adams, who easily threw Newman out at the plate, was interviewed after the game. He said, "When I turned around and I saw him running, I just threw the ball. What is going on? Where’s he going? Especially with the top of the lineup coming up. I don’t know what was the thought process behind that play....I had a lot of time. He was basically touching third base when I turned around. I had a lot of time. I didn't have to rush it."

Meanwhile, here are the excuses from the Post-Gazette article:

"third-base coach Mike Rabelo took a chance because … well, what other choice does he have right now?"

“He got aggressive because of where he saw the throw come out of [McCutchen’s] hand."

“We’re talking against a guy who’s maybe the best closer in baseball,” Shelton said. “Stringing together hits off him is extremely difficult.”

“Catching them by surprise is definitely a real thing,” Newman said. “You see it happen when teams don’t expect guys to run, then they do and they sneak in there.”

"Again, sometimes risks become necessary."

As usual, no accountability.

And hope is not a strategy.
