I tuned in in the 4th inning. Castro walked and Cruz came to bat. The first pitch from the lefty was a sweeping slider Cruz has swung at so many times before. This time he let it go, just outside for a ball. Next pitch was a slider that started on the inside and broke right over the middle. Cruz took a good swing but missed. Third pitch was a beautiful slider that was inside the whole route until it touched the black for a called strike -- but a good take by Cruz. Fourth pitch was a 1-2 slider that started on the inside of the plate, broke to the middle, and Cruz served it into left center for a hit. It was an excellent at bat for Cruz.
After the at bat, Cruz had an extended conversation with Shelton and other coaches while reviewing the video. Hopefully, this is a indication of needed coaching and player development.
Cruz's hit was the one that moved Castro to third as he lost his phone.
