So disappointed to see Hayes in the lineup. Like I mentioned, I watched a lot of baseball on MLB network. It was never mentioned.
I'm glad it was brought up on the Pirates broadcast at least. I didn't have the game on at that moment, I just now tuned in to the bottom of the 4th. No surprise there would be some defense of him. I'll go back when the game is available to stream and listen to exactly what they said. At the very least, kudos for them to even bring it up, because it didn't become a national kind of thing....yet. I think at some point it will be pointed out.

Hopefully it is an energy bar
I'd rather it be Baby Ruth, Oh Henry, or a Reggie bar, you know, someone who can hit?

They were saying that even though it was not a good look, Hayes could have got to 3B if he had been needed there.

Suwinski in another prolonged hitless streak, like the one that got him sent down the first time. Now 0-21.
He has 16 HR's, but 13 of them have been hit at PNC Park. He's had hits in 39 of the games he has played, 26 of them have come at PNC Park.
It's starting to look like he can only hit in his home park too.

That was the gist of the twitter arguments for those who defended him. I don't think they understand, at least how I see it, it's an attention to detail kind of thing. How mentally involved in the play was he? IDK, maybe I'm making too much of it, I think it's more of a piece of the whole puzzle of "details" that seem to keep popping up with the Pirates. Infielders can't communicate with each other on infield pop ups. Infielders and outfielders can't communicate on fly balls to shallow outfield. Missing bases. Run down of the batter between home and first. Phones in pockets, which is an actual rules infraction. Runners being waved home and thrown out by 30 feet. At what point do we stop saying, "No big deal" or "They're still young" or "They've used a lot of guys, they're still not all familiar with each other."?

Let's see if Hayes has that buffet table strength, and can tie this game up

Pirates have struck out 31 times so far in 24 innings in this series.
I have been saying it all year. For a team without a lot of power, they strike out way too much. It's readily obvious there's an organizational approach, or at least there is at the ML level, that is failing miserably.
This team should be putting the ball into play much more than they do.

Exactly! It's part of an overall disturbing pattern regardless of whether it directly affected the play.

Well, Stout tacks on another run to Wilson's ERA walking in a run.

I'll make one more comment about the Hayes thing, and I'll leave it alone. This is the second time a big market media guy has bashed the Pirates. A lot of us ran with the "hodge podge of nothingness" comment. Mainly because I think we know it's true, however........
Zeile and Eck also have a level of responsibility to be professional in what THEY are doing. It's punching down on a team for no reason. It's pretty easy to bash some other organization when yours sits there with their 200 million payrolls.
When it's all said and done for the season, I'm willing to bet you can say Boston's 206.5 million dollar payroll provided the same result as the Hodge Podgers.....finishing dead effing last place.
And when all the trumpets are done playing, 264.5 million will look pretty silly if they don't at least win the pennant.
