yep, they brought him in to get a good look in spring training and to be more than a reserve player. If he hits, he could push Chavis to the bench or to another team.

He just could be the right handed bat to help balance the lineup.

Surprised they designated Chavis. He has been slumping, but I figured he was someone they would retain. Allen should have been gone on September 1st.

They designate Chavis and keep Collins? The front office at least stays consistent with their idiotic moves.

I think Chavis was going to be arb eligible. They weren't planning to keep him anyway and are "giving" him a head start of finding a team (or deal) for next year.

Don’t worry Collins days are numbered. There is no way he makes the November Winter Roster Date for the Rule 5 Draft.

Yeah, I was very surprised. Chavis could have been a useful utility player next year. Obviously, they were not going to go thru arbitration with him next year. The time still isn't right to spend money.
