Skenes with an 11-pitch first inning, 10 for strikes. He had two strikeouts. No score after one.

Cardinals get a pair of singles to lead off the 5th but Skenes strikes out the next two batters and then gets a ground out. Great pitched game by both starters through five.

Nothing comes of the walk. This game is moving fast.

Another Burleson single is erased by a Goldschmidt double play grounder. No score through six. Skenes at 94 pitches, probably done for the night. He was terrific again.

Greg Brown never stops promoting the team. He gushes nonstop about Skenes. He does that with Cruz too. The past 2 years he did that with Hayes. As much as I detest Joe Block, he doesn’t tend to gush over the players. Maybe because he’s always talking about something else.
